LONDON FISH & CHIPS
Fried fish was made in Charles Dickens popular novel "Oliver Twist". During the 1850"s the trade grew based around small businesses selling fish and cooked potatoes on the streets and in the alleys of London and other industrial towns in England . In 1860"s the first fish and chips shop opened in London.No one is truly certain where they first come from.
London or Lancashire neither is it certain who invented them. The popular saying goes "They were not invented ,they were found.
In 2004,over 500 million meals of fish and chips were sold in shops throughout the UK,rpoving that fish and chips were sold is the UK"s favorite traditional fast food. If all the fish and chips meals eaten last year were lined up end,they would stretch over 50,000 miles,which is the equivalent to traveling around the world not once but four times. |
